8 Ways to Celebrate 4th of July with Friends and Family

Jun 18th 2021

The 4th of July, or Independence Day, is a celebration of the freedoms we have in this nation. As the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the traditions we enjoy commemorate the events surrounding that document.

Independence Day is a time to spend with family and loved ones, whether you’re in your back yard grilling, playing with sparklers, or watching your local fireworks show. If you’re looking for great ideas on how to celebrate this 4th of July, look no further than our list right here!

1. A Classic Cookout

Burgers and hot dogs on the grill, fun and games in the lawn, and maybe even an impromptu show with small fireworks and confetti are all part of your classic 4th of July cookout. Sharing good food with family and friends is a long-lasting American tradition, and it’s one that can make this holiday special for everyone.

2. Host a Red, White, and Blue Pool Party

Let’s face it. There’s only so much celebrating you can do under the hot sun of mid-summer. Why not cool off with a pool party? Put up red, white, and blue decor, set up a projector with a patriotic movie, get some pool games going, and even throw some confetti around for some added water fun! If you go with that last option, we recommend our confetti streamers since they’re much easier to clean up after you’re done tossing them around.

3. Send a Care Package to Our Troops

Another great way to celebrate our freedom is to support those who face danger every day to protect it. Preparing and sending a care package to our troops can let them know they’re appreciated while giving them a little sense of home. Some great things to send include:

  • Toiletries
  • Snacks
  • Meal enhancers, such as salt, hot sauce, ramen noodles, or relish
  • Cotton socks
  • Games
  • Reading material
  • Batteries
  • Hand warmers
  • Confetti flick sticks or a confetti box

Remember, it can take a couple weeks for a package to reach deployed troops, and there may be limitations depending on where they’re stationed, so keep those in mind when preparing your care package.

4. Get Crafty

Arts and crafts are a fun way to involve the kids in your 4th of July celebrations. For example, you might try out some DIY confetti poppers. All you need are balloons, empty toilet paper tubes, tape, construction paper, and some confetti. Just tape the end of the balloon to the tube with some tape, decorate the outside however you like, and load it up with confetti. Pull the balloon, release it with a snap, and you’ll have a burst of colorful paper and streamers showering down on your celebrations!

5. Enjoy a Backyard Show

What would any 4th of July celebration be without fireworks? Sparklers, firecrackers, snaps, roman candles, and other private-use fireworks can add some excitement to your festivities. As long as you follow safe practices and local regulations, you can create a memorable experience.

Alternatively, you might consider other options if you’re worried about the “fire” aspect of fireworks. For instance, confetti hand cannons are a fun way to add literal bursts of color to your backyard festivities!

6. Go to a Parade

Many places host parades in honor of the 4th of July, complete with floats, balloons, confetti, marching bands, and performers of all kinds. You might also have some local festivals that you can attend as well. To add to the pomp of the occasion, consider bringing your own red, white, and blue confetti to toss during your favorite moments.

7. Crank Up the Tunes

To really get into the spirit of the holiday, create a patriotic playlist. There are many options to choose from when it comes to songs about our nation, from My Country Tis of Thee to Party in the U.S.A. Play it at events, while you’re driving, or any other time you feel like having an Independence Day themed jam session.

8. Do an Interactive History Lesson

Family skits and reenactments can be a fun way to commemorate the historical events behind the holiday. Do a skit of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, or reenact a battle from the war. Confetti could even be used as a great visual stand-in for bombs going off! Get creative, and have fun.
